Accessibilities Committee

The District 1 Accessibilities Committee strives to assist A.A. members who have a variety of challenges in accessing the A.A. message in A.A. meetings, Twelve Step work and other A.A. service.

Specific activities of the Accessibilities Committee include arranging for meetings to be taken to the homebound, skilled nursing facilities and assisted living facilities; helping to arrange for American Sign Language interpreters at A.A. meetings; and providing lists of meetings that offer ASL interpretation, childcare, are wheelchair accessible, etc.

The District 1 Accessibilities Committee is seeking new members. All are invited to attend the Accessibilities Committee meeting at 6 p.m. on the third Thursday of the month at Central Office, 8340 Ulmerton Road, Suite 220, Largo.

Archives Committee

The mission of the District 1 Archives Committee is to document the work of Alcoholics Anonymous by collecting and preserving historical material related to District 1.

Activities of the Archives Committee include assisting home groups in District 1 with completion of group history forms and collection of these group histories on the Archives Committee website so they are available for all to see. The Archives Committee also maintains and nurtures a District 1 archives display, which committee members are happy to bring to district and home group events.

The District 1 Archives Committee is seeking new members. All are invited to attend the Archives Committee meeting the third Saturday of the month at 1:30 p.m. at the Alano Club in Dolphin Village, 4615 Gulf Blvd., Suite 112, St. Pete Beach.

Corrections Committee

The mission of the District 1 Corrections Committee is to carry the A.A. message to inmates in local jails and correctional institutions.

Activities of the Corrections Committee include taking 48 A.A. meetings to correctional institutions each month, including the 49th Street Jail.

The District 1 Corrections Committee is seeking new members. All are invited to attend the Corrections Committee meeting the second Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at Central Office, 8340 Ulmerton Road, Suite 220, Largo.

Grapevine Committee

The mission of the District 1 Grapevine Committee is to inform the Fellowship of our “meeting in print” and to provide information about literature and other resources available through aagrapevine.org.

Activities of the Grapevine Committee include encouraging all A.A. groups in District 1 to consider hosting a Grapevine meeting and providing resources to help groups do so. The committee also collects old Grapevine magazines and helps distribute them where they can best carry the A.A. message in our community.

The committee encourages A.A. groups to consider appointing or electing a group Grapevine Committee representative who can inform groups of opportunities to carry the A.A. message through our meeting in print.

The District 1 Grapevine Committee is seeking new members. All are invited to attend the Grapevine Committee meeting the third Wednesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at Central Office, 8340 Ulmerton Road, Suite 220, Largo.

Literature Committee

The District 1 Literature Committee informs individuals and A.A. groups of all available A.A. Conference-approved literature, audiovisual material and other special items; familiarizes the Fellowship with information on G.S.O.’s A.A. website (www.aa.org); displays literature for group, area, and district functions; considers suggestions regarding proposed additions to and changes in Conference-approved literature and audiovisual material; and encourages A.A. members to read and purchase A.A. literature.

The committee also encourages A.A. groups to consider appointing or electing a group Literature Committee representative who will ensure that A.A. literature is on hand for meetings and that it is properly displayed.

The District 1 Literature Committee is seeking new members. All are invited to attend the Literature Committee meeting the 2nd Sunday of the month at 2 p.m. at Central Office, 8340 Ulmerton Road, Suite 220, Largo..

Public Information/Cooperation with the Professional Community Committee

The District 1 Public Information/Cooperation with the Professional Community Committee communicates with professionals in the health care, law enforcement, treatment, corrections, human resources, counseling, sociology, ministry, education, communications and judicial systems. The committee cooperates, without affiliation, with those seeking to help those who may have a problem with alcohol and provides support and resources to A.A. members seeking to educate professionals with whom they come in contact.

Specific activities of the Public Information/Cooperation with the Professional Community Committee include speaking at schools and civic groups.

The committee encourages A.A. groups to consider appointing or electing a group Public Information/Cooperation with the Professional Community Committee representative who can inform groups of opportunities to carry the A.A. message in this way.

The District 1 Public Information/Cooperation with the Professional Community Committee is seeking new members. All are invited to attend the Public Information/Cooperation with the Professional Community Committee meeting the last Monday of the month at 6 p.m. at Central Office, 8340 Ulmerton Road, Suite 220, Largo.

Treatment Facilities Committee

The District 1 Treatment Facilities Committee is comprised of coordinators and chairpersons who take A.A. meetings to individuals who may have a desire to stop drinking in Pinellas County hospitals, detox/stabilization units, crisis intervention facilities and veterans’ facilities. The committee is responsible for taking 100 meetings each month to 10 facilities.

The committee also provides A.A. literature to these facilities and offers “Bridging the Gap” assistance to introduce newly released treatment clients to the A.A. community.

The committee encourages A.A. groups to consider appointing or electing a group Treatment Facilities Committee representative who can inform groups of opportunities to carry the A.A. message in this way.

The District 1 Treatment Facilities Committee is seeking new members. All are invited to attend the Treatment Facilities Committee meeting the last Saturday of the month at 10 a.m. at the De George Plaza, 12678 Starkey Road, Largo.

Website Committee

The purpose of the District 1 Website Committee is to facilitate updates to District 1 website pages. The committee reviews content updates at its monthly meeting and then forwards the updates to the Intergroup Liaison once a month for upload onto the site.

Activities of the Website Committee include updating changes to standing committee meeting information, including meeting locations dates, times or contacts.
